NATO was a reaction to the USSR seizure of a bunch of small countries
at the end of WWII, not to mention half of Germany.

We could have had a peaceful prosperous europe with Russia included,
and a nuke-free world, but the Soviets wouldn't have either. They
couldn't allow their people to be tempted by enlightment democracies,
so they machine-gunned anybody who tried to leave.

Nonsense, of course; EU agreements in place are treaties, and always DID
specify the UK right to leave. We don't do international
relations by analogies, we do it by other instruments (treaties, laws,
UN declarations, etc.).

As for 'don't want UK to leave', where did that impression come from?
The UK vote says there was some difference of opinion, but that's hardly
a measure of EU sentiment (if EU can be said to have sentiment).

NATO is none of those (and CK obviously cannot identify
the NATO entity with any clarity).
