I thought Rediffusion and ATV were great rivals, but I suppose they
co-operated over the London franchises (Rediffusion weekdays, ATV
weekends).

I read somewhere that Granada nearly ran out of money and had to be
baled out by Rediffusion.

Easier to connect my laptop to the TV with HDMI. Then I can play MP4s as
well, such as downloaded films using VLC which can incorporate subtitles
from .srt files. There are lots of foreign films available from YouTube,
and, if they don't have English subtitles, I can download the subtitle
file from elsewhere.

Same here in Cambridge some had British Relay they could receive ITV
London which was regarded by many as a much better programme source than
the local ITV Anglia!..

Course that was in the sixties and seventies the mast 170 foot high! has
long gone but oddments of the cabling can be seen around..

The same used to be said about Thames and LWT, they competed indirectly
for advertising in London, but behind the scenes there was unofficial
and friendly co operation.

ATV did indeed occupy  a floor in what was called Television House,
though I don't think there were any technical facilities or studios ?
(unlike ITN and Rediffusion )

Thames started out from their inception in 1968 at Television House, the
6pm Today show came from the foyer there (today it's a great big  Herman
Miller (posh office furniture) showroom).

They moved to Euston in 1969 in time for 625/colour (As well as taking
over ABC's big production studios at Teddington)

We can. Even if it's taken me a week.

I moved into such an estate in the 1980s. (In Bracknell)

They fed a coax cable to all the houses. It carried UHF TV, VHF radio,
and various subscription services. Aerials were banned.

(There was no internet back then.)
