i've never made my lamb stew with lentils (i do like
lentils but i don't put them in lamb stew). the reason
being that to me beans are a protein source so it is rare
that i would combine them with meat unless i'm really
trying to stretch it.

lamb has so much flavor going for it that to put an
entire head of chopped cabbage in is quite likely for me.
of course along with other things like onions, carrots,
potatoes, garlic and some tomato chunks (but not too
much because i don't think of this as a tomato dish at
all so just enough to give it some extra bump in flavor
but not so much as to where you can pick it out). basil
and a few other spices, but i tend to go light on mints.

Don and I settled on a curry gravy for lamb as our favorite. There was
a brief time when we could get lamb fair cheaply but we left for Japan
only 2-3 months later.

One of the problems is the USA calls it all 'lamb' but we generally
don't get the age classification match of other countrys for it. This
leaves many of us at a loss on finding the right way to make it as they
are not the same. It's one of the things you have to go outside the
USA and into a grocery store to see it. It's really a case of
innacurate listings at the store as the majority of what we sell ranges
young to mutton as 'prime' and full on mutton through 'choice'. The
stores just list it all as 'lamb' which elsewhere is no older than 1
year old.

Yes, we do have a 'stadard' but stores do not follow it.

sadly the USoA is rather poorly done in terms of
accuracy, nutrition or a lot of basic research when
it comes down to food - mainly because it is mostly
funded and run by the food industry and not by
scientists and a wider general public science
organisation.

They got everything in New York City. Well, maybe not Hawaiian food. That's okay - Hawaiian food is kinda weird. Zippy's food might be appealing to some New Yorkers, I guess, maybe.

Given his penchant for dumpster diving and how many peoepl I've
seen diving the dumpsters of 7-11 and Starbucks only to come back
to the bus stops and gloat about their newfound wares, the odds
are much greater than you figure.

Again wrong, as per usual. My friend works at 7/11, and has to "throw
away" depressing amounts of food that isn't sold. It usually goes into
a bag on-camera, then home and into the fridge.

I do re-sell trash finds, but I sure don't eat them.

That's exactly the story a 7-11 eating dumpster diver would make
up to cover up their nasty dining habits when confronted.

Poor Brucette - out of touch with even her alternate realities.

If people had to personally kill what they eat, it would be as
commonplace as choosing a movie to watch.

I always liked lamb and for decades wanted to try mutton figuring
it was be a stronger-tasting lamb.

Finally got a hold of some a couple years ago and I sure satisfied
that curiosity once and for all. I can see where Sheldon got his
distaste for all "lamb" - his mother was cooking Mutton. And it
sure does schtink.

You mean like a cage match? Can I at least wear a red cape and
maybe have some chairs to smash over their heads?

Eh <shrug>, it's whatever. Count me in!

It's certainly unsuitable in relation to salt.

crop, transitive verb:

2: to cause (land) to bear a crop
_planned to crop another 40 acres_
also : to grow as a crop

crop, intransitive verb:

2: to yield or make a crop

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crop

Even in relation to ordinary agriculture, it's kind of a specialist
term, so it sounds a little odd to most of us.

Based on his descriptions (schtinks!) I always suspected Sheldon's
mother was cooking mutton. I'd rather not try it.

My father spend more than 3 years in the UK during the war and he hated
lamb mainly because of the mutton they had been fed over there.

In case you don't know, butterflies migrate just like birds do. This
butterfly appreciated a sip of sugar water. :)

Or... it was the way it was cooked. I was once visiting my grandmother
and my aunt was cooking supper. She had some nice looking loin chops and
was about to put them in a pan to sear and add water to it and slap a
top on and cook them for about an hour. What a horrible thing to do to a
lamb chop.
