Not me. I'll happily eat what I killed.

I grow a lot of our fruit and vegetables too. Home

So you're part of the 10%. At least the meat you eat hasn't been
tortured first, like all factory meats.

A friend of mine who I went to visit works at 7/11, and she takes home
post-dated food that the store is going to throw out. I do not
dumpster-dive for food. The sandwiches were stored in a refrigerator,
and they were perfectly edible. Sophia was sent to school with one, and
the last one will be my lunch today. I don't like waste.

I'm not any part of your fake "statistic" which is no
more than ignorant and biased invention.

Indeed the food is perfectly edible but the power of a date printed on a can is strong. I won't let my life be controlled by a date made up by somebody. That's ridiculous.

Do you really think many people would kill their own cows, pigs and
lambs? I bet there'd be a rush on faux meat and tofu instead :)

Why not? it's what many people did in the not very
distant past. When human birth, dying and death normally
happened at home, people were far less squeamish about
death, pain and mess.

I wasn't talking about the past, but about the now. Now, the barbaric
practice is safely stored away in slaughterhouses.

Given he is so dead set on pushing his vegetarian agenda, I have to
wonder why he is on this cooking newsgroup. Surely there's a vegetarian
newsgroup out there where they can all sing "kumbaya" and pat each other
on the back for being superior beings. He's certainly not going to
change my mind about a delicious medium-rare lamb chop even if I didn't
slaughter it myself.

Yes, I think many people who raise their own livestock
for their own consumption, would kill it.

I've done it (and seen it) , you haven't. Done right,
humane killing is not barbaric.

Vets do it all the time, do you call that barbaric?

And how many people raise their own livestock? Less than 10%, which
brings us back to the aforementioned 90%.

Do you only eat animals that have been euthanised because they were
dying a painful death? No, you eat perfectly healthy animals that were
killed because you couldn't control your barbaric urges.

Not to mention people who hunt venison or elk for their own consumption.
They kill it, field dress it and may butcher it themselves or have it
butchered professionally. To eat. They aren't hunting for trophy heads
to hang on their walls.

Sometimes they're hanging in the barn until they can be packed in
coolers on ice and taken to a professional butcher.

There's no point in arguing with him. He's hell bent on calling anyone
who isn't a vegetarian a barbarian (and a sociopath). He's obviously a
superior being.

Sure, people were brought up that way and it was a matter of survival.

Today, most people have no idea meat comes from animals. It is in the
supermarket in plastic trays and displayed to look inviting.

We've evolved to a society that prefers to pay for services rather than
do physical work

Put up a sign pointing to the market "Free Meat" and there will be a
long line.

Put up that same sign, "Free Meat" and have a cow or pig in a pen and
see how many people will jump in to get it.

Rustling farm livestock is common In Australia, and I
know it's happened to my farm neighbours, so I'd be very
surprised if it's not happening in USA. Rustlers do NOT
take their free meat to a licensed slaughterhouse. Their
paying customers don't ask questions.

"Otherwise known as ?rustling? or ?duffing?, stealing farm
animals is a crime with a long history.

In February this year, 700 sheep worth $140,000 were
allegedly stolen from a farm west of Bendigo in Victoria.
In March, a farmer west of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales
reported 350 sheep were missing, the majority about to
have lambs, making them even more valuable in a strong
sheep market.

NSW police data contained in a report by PwC shows that
from 2016 to 2020 an average of 1,845 cattle a year were
reported stolen in the state.

Dr Kyle Mulrooney, co-director of the Centre for Rural
Criminology, says stock theft is quite commonplace in
Australia. About 40% of farmers have been the victims of
stock theft"

For those wondering why Bruce hangs round rfc, I suggest
it's because he relies on most rfc posters knowing even
less than he does, about the Netherlands, Australia, food
production and vegetarian cooking.

Yes, I'm here to learn about the Netherlands. Very perceptive, Janet.
