I often wonder what the people that got depressed because they couldn’t attend a music festival or visit a museum/theatre for a while would do when facing the problems the Ukrainers facing now.

That's a good policy. However, it's easier to use one of the site
safety checking web pages to check out a URL before opening. For
example:
<https://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com>
<https://transparencyreport.google.com/safe-browsing/search>
<https://www.psafe.com/dfndr-lab/>
etc...
Stuffing the entire URL into the search box, they proclaim that the
link is safe. Some checkers also check databases of known evil web
sites under "reputation checker".

The long string that Tom posted is mostly tracking information about
Tom's browser and not some kind of trap. The links that I worry about
are URL redirectors. One cannot inspect the original link and expect
to find any useful information on where it points (redirects). So, I
use various URL redirection checkers such as:
<https://wheregoes.com>
<https://www.redirect-checker.org>
<https://redirectdetective.com>
etc...

To make it easy for me to post URL's that are not a mile long or
loaded with information about my browser, I use a Firefox browser
plugin that removes most of the junk, leaving only what's necessary.
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clearurls/>
<https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/clearurls/lckanjgmijmafbedllaakclkaicjfmnk>
These are not prefect and sometimes break on badly written web sites,
but are easily turned on/off as needed. Unfortunately, plugging the
long URL that Tom posted into the URL cleaner utility doesn't remove
very much from the tracking info. I don't know why but I suspect it
has something to do with how Yahoo formats its searches. Not worth
fixing because I don't use Yahoo.

However, I cheat. Long ago, I decided it would be useful to
understand how URL's and tracking information worked. The trick was
understanding how to parse the line, what to look for, how it handled
strange characters, etc. It's been quite useful. When I saw Tom's
long URL full of tracking info, I instinctively parsed the line and
extracted what he was trying to point to with the URL. Stripping of
the excess baggage, I posted the YouTube search link to Scott Atlas.
Knowing his reputation, that's as far as I went.

In the middle of the largest war in history Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller and others were playing for the troops both in Europe and the Pacific and we have people saying that there can't be much war in the Ukraine because way back of the front lines they are having old Rock Groups playing for their entertainment and to help retain their morale. But I suppose when you're stupid nothing can help you. I heard that it is possible that Belarus is going to declare war against Russia. If the other ex-satellite border countries also chip in Russia will never again dare to attack any one of them for any reasons at all,

I'll take that bet.
For whatever amount you like, I'll bet that if Belarus
declares war formally it will be as a Russian ally, against
any country or alliance except Russia.

Void at one year and if no declaration by then, the bet's off.

OK with you?

The people have to kick out Lukashenko first. First thing first. It can take a while but it can’t last forever. One year seems to be too soon I’m afraid. Even Poetin has to go someday.

The pressures on Lukashenko are growing by the minute. Anyone even vaguely within reach of Russia has joined the European Union for a variety of reasons but largely to prevent invasion of their own country's by Russia.

"first world problems" is a phrase my wife and I use frequently, especially when dealing with annoyances in our daily lives. Another of mine is "if that's the worst thing that happens to me today, I'm having a pretty good day". It helps us keep out perspective about whats really important. I tried to open my pool yesterday but discovered the pump housing developed a crack over the winter. I managed to seal it with RTV to get the system running but I need a replacement. My local pool supplies stores are all giving me ~ 30 days lead times. I was frustrated and angry when I found the crack and couldn't get a replacement immediately, but "first world problems" was in the front of my thoughts the whole time. The worst thing that happened to me yesterday was finding the crack in the housing - It was a pretty good day.

That's because he's been infected by unreasoning panic, spread
irresponsibly by public health officials. It might kill him.

I remember being surprised by your descriptions of music gigs and church
services at a time when they were prohibited where I live. My point is
that if it would take, say $100K to get you to voluntarily hole up for a
year, then making you do it makes the world poorer by $100K.

Covid restrictions were very hard in the third world, because they
prevented people from making enough to eat. Still, they were applied.

But... One might ask, "why did the housing crack?" Did God simply
point his finger and CRASH! the housing broke? Did one forget to drain
the water out of the system and it froze?

lol....Neither, unless you wish to propose that a 20 year old pump housing cracks under the will of god....I'm going with simple material fatigue fro 20 years of exposure to New England weather and highly chlorinated water.

The Chinese overall government system is less than ideal. Yet it has allowed 1.4 billion people to sort of flourish. Sort of. If the USA had 1.4 billion people, could democracy work? India has about as many people as China and I am not sure India is thriving. India is supposedly a democracy. Its often reported that Eisenhower was amazed at the road network in Germany after the war. He saw how beneficial it was. And implemented it in the USA. Just because Germany was run by Nazi Hitler, does not mean they did not do some things right. Dictator Stalin fought Germany to a standstill and eventually repulsed them. In that case maybe having a dictator was the best way to fight Hitler. So dictator Stalin was good. In that one and only situation.

As they say..."Il Duce made the trains run on time"...Sorry Russel, I don't see the upside to totalitarian dictatorships, regardless of how well the trains run.

What's the housing material?

As he has done all along Frank cannot keep himself from talking about things he doesn't know and cannot understand. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if Frank doesn't drive around wearing his mask in a car with all the windows closed. There is not the slightest hint of science in anything he has ever said. He is "smart" because a piece of paper he probably has mounted prominently framed in his front hallway says that he is smart. This idiotic belief that the only way one may gain information is in a classroom started largely with Obama who 4 years into his Presidency was still blaming Bush for every one of his own failures. Before that the idea that working experience was by far the best teacher was the common idea. Certainly there was room for the classroom and extended education, but that sort of need was RARE and not common. In far too many cases I have shown PhD's to be idiotic. Who with any education in the real world would set a safe period to empty poison gas out of a chamber to the calculated period without at least 100% safety factor? Instead they gave me the minimum time they calculated. Was the destruction in my lungs cause by my 20% early entry into the chamber or from the continuous poisoning from no safety factor?

I have never figured out why those PhD's would say that my project couldn't possibly be completed without TWO IBM supercomputers. Luckily the third PhD knew that I was on the right track. Lives were saved rather than expensive hardware purchased to play with. The software PhD, that I employed didn't seem to be any better than the other two who had BS's. So why were they willing to hire him at inflated wages while NOT showing me the resume's of highly qualified people that didn't have a degree? This put a thousand people out of work since the degreed people could NOT do the work with no experience other than classroom. I'm sure that with experience they became successful. One I know works at Cisco. This after he was fired from there and rehired because they had NO applicants with degrees and companies like Cisco have to have "the best".

Not sure. Some type of glass-filled plastic. Aside from some bleaching in the basket compartment and a slight fading on the exterior it didn't really look like it had been out in the weather for 20 years when placed next to the new one. The crack originated from the drain plug and propagated through the bottom of the housing. I suppose there may have been an instance at some point where I forgot to remove the drain plug over one winter, but since I need to winterize the whole system I don't find that likely - I think it's just age, and I don't think a 20 year lifespan on a part like that is unureasonable.

Lives were saved rather than expensive hardware purchased to play with. The software PhD, that I employed didn't seem to be any better than the other two who had BS's. So why were they willing to hire him at inflated wages while NOT showing me the resume's of highly qualified people that didn't have a degree? This put a thousand people out of work since the degreed people could NOT do the work with no experience other than classroom. I'm sure that with experience they became successful. One I know works at Cisco. This after he was fired from there and rehired because they had NO applicants with degrees and companies like Cisco have to have "the best".

>Can you imagine some TV moron telling us that GPS tracking isn't all that accurate? The government themselves say that the WORST accuracy of GPS is 16 feet, But in fact the normal accuracy is a couple of feet. My GPS actually shows where I am in my own house accurately from the front bedroom, front room at the entry doorway, the family room and the backyard,. My home is only 1,550 square feet and the lot is small as
>well. I have said this before - I watched Fauci in a news conference being asked why he instituted lockdowns since people were going broke and he said that he had made $9 Million.

Amazing. I didn't know that Covid-19 politics were related to the US
government's stated accuracy of the GPS system. Also, I didn't know
that house floor space and lot size affect GPS operation. Wow. Any
clue on how it all works?

Civilian GPS accuracy is about 5 meters outdoors and 10 meters
indoors. This can be greatly improved using post processing error
correction, choke ring antenna (to minimize reflections), additional
satellites (GLONASS, GALILEO), real time corrections (WAAS), data
averaging, ground based pseudolites, high sensitivity receiver,
cellular assist (A-GPS), wi-fi assist, etc. The error is also
affected by atmospherics, reflections, foliage, RF interference, etc.
It's difficult to provide an estimate on what you might expect
indoors, where I would expect lower signal levels and considerable
reflections. Depending on which of the accuracy improving features
are available in your unspecified GPS receiver, you should be able to
achieve cm accuracy.

Using the Mobile Topographer Android app:
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applicality.mobiletopographergis>
I'm seeing 5.4m accuracy with no averaging, and 1.03m accuracy with
360 samples (at 1 sample per second) averaged on my Moto G Power
(2020) phone. Note that this is indoors, surrounded by 150ft trees,
on the side of a steep hill, and near all my electronic gizmos. I'm
using 15 out of 23 "visible" satellites (GPS 5/10, GLONASS 6/8 and
GALILEO 4/6). Quite good, methinks.

However, since you're quite correct that GPS is more accurate than
your unspecified source claimed, you should thank Fauci for the
improvements. I realize that there's no connection between GPS and
Fauci, but thanking him is consistent with your amazing logic.

>Why can't you find that on Google?

Well, there are several possibilities:
1. You don't know how to use Google search.
2. You didn't provide Google with enough information to find
anything.
3. Whatever you're looking for doesn't exist.
4. Google is blocking results for various evil reasons.
5. It's a conspiracy to suppress your wrong information.

There are alternative search engines:

For entertainment, try Yandex (direct from Putinland).

Warning: They really want your mobile phone number.

Maybe you should just use Bing. Bing has some really nice daily

But didn't the Athenians, who invented democracy, had provisions for
the appointment of a "dictator", a single, all powerful, leader,
during wars?
