Honestly, I never disagreed with you Prof RK. But at least allow me the chance to put forward common phrases that I was thinking of, e.g. "hamaari i'zzat ab aap ke haath hai" and "i'zzat aur zillat Allah ke haath hai" etc. That's it.

Thanks a lot, Raj uncle. This Mother's Day was hard. I'm still mostly in a daughter mode, loss of my mom is raw and I miss her more and more as time goes by.

On the flip side, my older son got me flowers, and my favorite flavor of ice cream from the local creamery. I said to him exactly what my mom used to say after receiving the flowers I would get delivered for her, "There was no need for flowers, overpriced on this day!"

Interesting that you mention it. I had actually paused and thought about the baHr of this ghazal before posting and believed I had it all figured out. Here is the baHr/taqtii':

2* 1 2 2/ 1 2 1 2/ 2 2
*The first syllable is properly long, but is allowed to be short in this particular meter.

2 1 2 2/ 1 2 1 2 / 2 2
ap ni DeRh iiN/T kii ja d-di/mas jid
ki si vii raa/ne meN ba naa/i-ye gaa

I just double checked, the matla' of the ghazal also fits the same baHr:

2 1 2 2 / 1 2 1 2 / 2 2
kab ta lak yuuN/si tam u Thaa/i-ye gaa
e k din yuuN/hi jii se jaa /i-ye gaa

So I am stumped! Unless you are objecting to me writing 'ki' instead of 'kii' in the first misra' when I originally posted the she'r, I am not sure what the error is.

Prof RK,

Remember I already admitted I was stumped on this, and suspected this word was the weak link. I could not fit this she'r in any other baHr, honestly tried several others. I needed 'jaddii' to be 1-2 to fit in this position, sort of manipulated it as 'ja-d-di'--> 1-1-1. Pretty creative, but of course I can't get away with it, not in your presence.

Too late in the day now, I will look at this again in the morning and try to salvage it if possible. If I still can't figure it out, you will have to guide me on this one. I will take a .01 deduction in the numeric grade, sure.
