As of today, they reportedly do have troops in Ukraine. Not sure how

As far as I can tell it was always expected that any Russian(USSR) attack
against NATO would turn into a meat grinder for them. It was just feared
that they were willing to keep throwing people into the grinder until the
blades wore down.

Yes, perhaps by some miracle, before Russia uses its superior force
to crush the courageous Ukrainian people, maybe enough people in
Russia will recognize the abyss into which Putin is leading their nation,
and the war will end.

If so, we will have been luckier than we deserved to be, since the West
failed to prevent this terrible war while it could easily have done so.

If not, then the consequences are obvious.

Russia will have proved that a nuclear threat is enough to prevent the
United States from responding to aggression. The People's Republic of
China will not be slow to make use of this information, and Taiwan will
be the next to fall.

Possibly South Korea will follow.

The American electorate will, understandably, percieve all this as a
failure on the part of the Biden administration. So, in 2024, a Republican
President takes office - dedicated to the principle of holding on to power
by fair means or foul. Gerrymandering and voter suppression will be the
order of the day - and because black Americans are not going to take being
deprived of their right to vote lying down, expect violent repression.

Maybe even genocide. Because we're not talking about a leadership
dedicated to liberty or equality, we're talking about people who would like
nothing more than to turn America into the kind of despotism we see in
Russia.

This isn't going to be the kind of world that's worth living in.

If nobody in Russia is prepared to shoot Putin to prevent him from
leading Russia into more disastrous economic sanctions, how about
to prevent him from launching a nuclear World War III? At some point,
armed intervention in the Ukraine, despite Putin's threats, may actually
become the rational option.

They *are* jamming them. The drones are designed to work anyway.
And in the never ending game of cat and mouse, the drone designers
are currently one step ahead.

I am increasingly of the opinion that Putin is suffering from bad
intel. That his inner circle are toady yes-men who are so terrified
of him (for good reason) that they simply won't tell him *anything*
he doesn't want to hear, even if it means the deaths of thousands.
(It's not a new concept in that part of the world, either).

I'm also increasingly of the opinion that the end game is either
Russia conquering Ukraine, or Putin being ousted (and probably
assassianated) by his own inner circle. With the odds increasingly
towards the latter.

I certainly hope that the latter is what happens.

However, good things do not happen because one is waiting for
them to be handed to one on a platter. The Ukrainian people are
doing everything they can, and the West is certainly doing more
than it might have, but there is no real assurance that this will
be enough.
