Just as well, as you wouldn't have much of a case :)

Lol :)

This is the key point right here. The people who are enabling this
"discrimination" are in fact the very people who are complaining about
being discriminated against in the first place.

In some no doubt. Others will no doubt give up and comply in the end.

This is the whole point of it all. To make people realise that this will
happen and they can avoid it easily by getting vaccinated and reducing
the risk of transmission.

That's not a bad idea :)

There's been talk for a while of charging people who visit public
hospital casualty departments a consultation fee for services that were
not urgent and could have been adequately treated by a local GP, and the
same thing could be applied to unvaccinated Covid patients who could
have avoided a stint in ICU by getting a free shot.

I read in the paper today that the vax status requirement only became
law a few days ago. Still, I was out at a few places this morning and no
one gave the slightest fuck.

there's some confusion here because there's been anti-vax and
anti-lockdown  rallies, and 'kill the bill' rallies. the latter have
been peaceful but the former not so much, although some anti-vaxers were
at the bill rallies.

nope. he was executed by the Romans over 2000 years ago

The wife went out into the city last Saturday for dinner and drinks with
a bunch of her staff and they went to a restaurant and a couple of bars,
and they had to check in and show their vaccination status at each
venue. Around here though in "rural Vic" no one seems to give a fuck.

I don't think places like Coles have to comply as they'd be considered
an "essential" shop, but everywhere else was open slather with no one
checking jack.

Absolutely. Get a few of the cuzzie bro's out there to sort shit out.

There was a story in the paper of some fucktard throwing a cup of hot
water over some kid who was checking vaccination status outside some
store. I mean, for fuck's sake. They don't make the rules and are only
trying to do their job.

Fucking morons.

Yeah, I was only having a conversation about that with my mother in law
a couple of weeks ago after reading about the protests and complaints of
what to her must have seemed pretty trivial. She was born in 1938 and is
old enough to remember living through World War II and the years of
rationed supplies that came after it. She wasn't dismissive of people
complaining as she appreciated how difficult it could be for some
people, but she wondered how people of today would handle going two
years or more before they could buy a fresh egg or a new pair of shoes,
or have a monthly ration of 3 gallons of petrol.

Rationing in New Zealand went for 9 straight years, and I think it was
much the same here.

Hundreds maybe. Hundreds of thousands is Felix demonstrating how thin

ROTFL :)

Take a look at this footage here:

That's 350 thousand people on the streets of Adelaide to see the Beatles
when they toured here in 1964. Compare that to footage of the recent
city protests and you'll see that the Police Commissioner has no idea
when it comes to estimating crowd numbers.

> Sounds too high,

Ridiculously so, but then it's not like the Police Commissioner would
ever be talking the numbers up to make his own force's handling of the
situation look exemplary :)

Lol :)

It would be interesting to determine how many were there out of a
genuine sense of protest at the law and how many were just using it as
an excuse to run rampant and didn't give a shit (or know) why they were
there.

I would think the latter would outnumber the former, and probably by
some considerable margin.

> In the Sydney rally there was a woman with a placard saying "The blood

Heh :)

A very old friend of mine who I've known since we were school kids and
who I love to death is a mad anti vaxxer. She's an amazingly wonderful
woman who has the kindest heart, but she's as dumb as a bricklayer's
trowel and has been since I've known her. She's had 8 lovely children
who have all grown up to be wonderful adults and they were all
vaccinated when they needed to be, but as far as this "Covid nonsense"
goes she's been got at and turned by a few of her nutbag snowflake friends.

I haven't seen her in years, but the last pic of herself she posted on
Facebook showed her holding a sign that had a hypodermic needle crossed
out with a big red X, and she was wearing a shirt that said "No vaccines
- I trust my immune system".

My immediate thought was "Love, you're amazing, but with bullshit
beliefs like that I'll be going to your funeral and not you going to mine".

I can remember my mother paying the milk bill and having to provide
coupons to cover the amount of milk that we had consumed. Almost
everything was rationed, the last items only came off in 1954. Petrol
was almost impossible to come by for the average motorist.

I remember seeing the scenes on TV of the Beatles visit to Melbourne,
the city came to a standstill and there was an enormous crowd.
There was also enormous crowds at the anti Vietnam war protests in
Melbourne, both of the above crowds were massive compared to recent
protests, if the PC did say 300 thousand then he's fantasizing, unlikely
it was anywhere near 100,000.

he quoted numbers for various things. I may be mistaken about the crowd
number he gave. it was certainly thousands however

I still have a ration book here somewhere that my old man gave me when I
was a kid. I can remember him telling me what life was like, both during
the war and after. Rationing went on for a *long* time after the war
ended, and well into the 1950's as you say. People complain about the
difficulties of life today under lockdown, but I dare say most of them
would struggle to to understand what life was like back then, not even
being able to buy a loaf of bread or chunk of cheese even if you *did*
have the money in your pocket.

Different world, and certainly a different people.

Probably 30 thousand tops. The last protest footage I saw on TV was the
recent big one as they marched up Bourke St towards Parliament house,
and the video showed the protesters occupying just over 2 blocks in
Bourke St. Nothing like 300 thousand people. 30 thousand was probably
pushing it :)

**I only know that she is an utter fool. She has NOT looked at the
medical studies which show, conclusively, that COVID-19 vaccinations are
safe and that the COVID-19 virus is highly dangerous for mother and
foetus. I do not believe that ANY doctor, registered in Australia, will
have provided her with the clearly false information that she has embraced.

Only REALLY stupid people make claims like: "COVID-19 vaccines cause
miscarriages".

I'll spell it out once more: Your niece is an idiot. She is likely
listening to some idiot on Youtube.

References:

https://www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/clinical/research-finds-no-association-between-covid-vaccin

"Research finds no association between COVID vaccines and miscarriage"

And:

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0255994

"There is an increased risk of abortion in mothers with a positive test
result of SARS-CoV-2, which several case reports and case series have
identified during the pandemic. Placental inflammation during the viral
infection may result in fetal growth retardation and induce abortion.
There has not been any consistent evidence of vertical transmission of
the virus from mother to fetus, which requires further investigation."

I will re-state: Your niece is a misguided idiot. Tell her to listen to
credible medical advice, not some random idiot on Youtube.

This information took me all of THREE MINUTES to locate. I betcha your
moronic niece spent hours seeking out false information.

That's the core issue. I don't want to be that guy taking up a bed
because of a selfish choice I made at the expense of someone who needs
it and doesn't have a choice - who might die as a result.

Maybe anti-vaxxers should be made to sign waiver to hospitalisation due
to COVID but they'll bang on about rights on that too, because all they
care about is what they want, not what is best for the greater community.

Rationing ended in 1950 following the 1949 election with petrol
rationing being the predominant election issue.

The Chifley Labor Government intended maintaining it on economic
grounds. Pig Iron Bob campaigned on the promise of ending it which
easily won him the election. Labor stalwarts were still arguing
Chifley was right long after rationing ended.

AFAIK the only wartime measures Menzies retained were price control
(which included cars) and import restrictions (on economic grounds)
with the exception of crude oil.

Australian based oil refineries were established around the same time
as petrol rationing ended.

Certainly wasn't a good time, we also had electricity rationing due to
industrial disputes.
Major industrial disputes that affect everyone are pretty much non
existent now.
