I don't completely agree with my builder mate and whilst there is no
doubt issues that affect prices there is also an element of taking
advantage so a bit of both.

Shifting the goalposts to try and hide the fact that he has no idea what

I see in his ridiculous irrelevant waffle it's a Valve float problem
now? First it was not enough piston to valve clearance that caused the
engine to fail which was my fault, and now it's a valve float due to the
cam profile, and that's *also* my fault despite that *exact* cam
profile, springs and cylinder head having been used for a number of
years and never causing a problem :)

Perhaps Dr. Google could take a moment to explain to everyone how it was
that an engine that ran two lengthy dyno sessions, a full test and tune
day at a race track and then 6 laps flat out at Bathurst before coming
to grief near the end of the 7th in with an instant breakage problem
could have gone for *so* long on a number of different occasions before
the problem just suddenly magically appeared and took the engine out?

It would make for interesting reading. Fanciful, delusional, complete
fiction reading, but interesting nonetheless :)

The piston to valve clearance is there to allow for any and all float,
loft and bounce. If you don't check it, especially in a non-standard
build, you run the risk of, well, what happened to Les' engine. The
exhaust valve hits the piston and, as far as the engine is concerned,
that's all she wrote. Les learnt a valuable lesson, lets hope he
remembers it for all time.
